Perbaps his least known book, "Lord Arthur Saville’s Crime,” 18 also his most artistic ; the author is at hie best when frivolling with the idea of a man who feels impelled by Fate to commit murder, because it bas been foretold by a palmist from bis band that he will do so, and is only anxious to get it over before be is, married. Bit real humoarand real earnest are equally alien to his artificial atmosphere. It is probable that he would have never brought the action whick has tarned ont so fatally for him, but for the rongb horseplay of that bunch of carrote which Lord Queen’s- | berry kept in readiness for presentation at each firet night. |
